To assure our patients have a pain-free and anxiety-free experience, our offices are able to provide a full range of anesthetic options. Our surgical staff is highly trained to assist our surgeons and our surgical suites are equipped with state-of-the-art monitoring systems. We offer a full range of anesthesia services at our Peoria, Galesburg and Macomb locations.

The method of anesthesia that is chosen for or by a patient depends on the nature of the surgical procedure, the patient’s medical history, and the patient’s level of apprehension.

What type of anesthetic are you most comfortable with?

We offer the following options:

Local Anesthesia:

The numbing agent is administered in the specific area where the surgery is to be performed.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas):

Nitrous oxide is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen administered through a nasal breathing apparatus.  Local anesthetic is always used in conjunction. Patients remain conscious but in a relaxed state. Patients may utilize this option at our Peoria, Galesburg and Macomb locations.

IV Sedation:

With IV sedation, also known as “twilight sedation”, medications are administered intravenously (through a vein).  Patients are asleep and completely unaware of the procedure being performed.  Supplemental oxygen is delivered through a nasal breathing apparatus and the patient’s vital signs are monitored closely.

General Anesthesia/Hospital Based:

Patients needing to be completely asleep due to extensive procedures or certain medical conditions require anesthesia administered by an anesthesiologist.  We offer this option here in our office in our surgical suite and in a hospital based setting.

Patients having minor procedures that are performed in the office under local anesthesia, nitrous oxide, or same day surgery (extraction of no more than 3 erupted teeth) may defer the consultation appointment.

All patients undergoing IV anesthesia, general anesthesia, hospital based procedures, or that have serious medical conditions are required to schedule a consultation prior to surgery.  This allows our doctors the opportunity to review your medical history and address any concerns or limitations certain medical conditions may impose.

At Associated Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons we care about providing the best dental experience for all our patients in central Illinois. Schedule a consultation at our Peoria, Galesburg or Macomb office to learn more about all the anesthetic options we offer.
